Biography

Mark Leidner is the author of several books and chapbooks in different genres, including the poetry collection Beauty Was the Case That They Gave Me (Factory Hollow), the aphorism collection The Angel in the Dream of Our Hangover (Sator Press), the poetry chapbook Salad on the Wind (Song Cave), and the short story collection Under the Sea (Tyrant Books). "21 Extremely Bad Breakups," a story from Under the Sea, won the 2015 Newfound Prose Prize and in 2018 was adapted for the stage and directed by Amy Rummenie of the Walking Shadow Theatre Company in Minneapolis. Leidner has also written and produced feature films. The latest, the 2019 sci-fi fantasy Empathy, Inc., earned praise in Variety, The Verge, and the A.V. Club. He has previously taught creative writing at Portland State University, the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and the University of Iowa.
